Two Week Round Up

It’s been an exciting past few weeks here in the Schroeder household! We’ve been busy with at home schooling, warm weekends, and household projects. I thought that since I’ve missed a few weeks of the day in the life of us, I would do a countdown of the top 5 most thrilling things we’ve been up to haha. Or as thrilling as we get these days... here we go!

5. You know that meme going around about parents constantly telling their children not to do things because they don’t want to go to the Emergency Room? Well, there should be one for husbands... So grateful for this man, but he is accident prone. We’ve been slowly updating things in our house, from the paint colors, to replacing all of the gold fixtures throughout. I’ve had a replacement faucet for our main floor washroom sitting off to the side for a while now. So we decided to replace it finally! Little did I know this project would prove harder than expected. To cut to the chase, he had to remove some old gunk off the sink and decided scraping it with his utility knife. Ended up slicing his finger pretty bad, almost passed out and refused to go get stitches. ( I mean I don’t blame him, I wasn’t necessarily pushing him to go). Not to worry, he’s ok! We got it cleaned up, and wrapped up and now you can barely tell there was anything wrong. He also got the sink put back together and the bathroom looks great! You can see pics at the end here!

4. Scooter Olympics are now banned from our home. If you’re not familiar with the infamous scooter olympics, it’s become a weekly made up activity for us. Just something fun to do outdoors and gets our wiggles out. So, exactly one day after the bloody sink issue, I was frantically called to the front door by a blood covered James. Turns out throwing a scooter up in the air doesn’t really work out too well when you catch it with your face. James has a long history with bloody noses and luckily that’s all this was. His nose collided with the scooter mid air and made for quite the sight. Definately made my heart stop when I saw him. We got him cleaned up though and a small bruise was all he was left with. PHEW. When I say these people are trying to kill me. I. Mean. It.

3. One huge advantage of Ben still having to go into work each week is that he really loves his time with the kiddos on the weekends. He is not the type of guy to sit still for long, so the weekends are full of activities and projects around the house. He has been such a lifesaver for me. The kids crave time with him and so they all head outdoors to do projects and I am left with a quiet empty house for a few hours and it’s glorious. The weeks are long with only being able to see him a few hours in the evenings but the weekends make it worth everything. So grateful for him in this time especially. Two weekends ago, they became worm farmers, finding around 50 worms outside and trying to fatten them up for a little fishing trip they went on last weekend. Just so many little things they are getting to experience together that perhaps wouldn’t normally be the case. Just so many little blessings everywhere you look for them.

2. These past weeks have me reflecting on what special moments I could write about. One of the main moments that sticks out in my mind is the morning I woke up a little later than normal and tip toed down the hall to find James and Emma reading on James’ bed. They really do get along well normally, but I feel like now more than ever they are becoming best friends. There is of course the normal fighting back and forth. But, there are so many laughs, compliments, and ideas bouncing back and forth between the two of them these days. It really makes me think about the years to come and how this time might be strengthening their bond for times later in life. I hope that these days of just the two of them will build their relationship and that when our lives go back to a semblance of normal that they’ll yearn for a good day home just the two of them.

1. Lastly, some of my favorite moments from these past few weeks have been our time we’ve been able to spend in God’s word. While watching church from home can be difficult some days, and trying to teach my kids His word everyday can be challenging, we are just constantly reminded that we are in His hands. Dressing up for church on Easter was something we really looked forward to, and the kids enjoyed being able to dress up and treat the day special. Through these times we keep our minds on God‘s plan for us and keep trusting that he is in control.

As always we hope you all are staying safe, sane and healthy!

xoxo,

Kaelyn
